June Newsletter: A Look Through the Rosebush

Hello, Roses!

Oh my goodness, look at me making the June newsletter by the skin of my teeth! I hope you all are well! I feel so out of the loop right now - Helen has been holding down the fort on the socials front, where I haven’t checked TikTok in weeks and have only poked my toe back into Instagram. For the last few weeks, I’ve been in Japan with my husband. We had the most incredible time! We shopped ‘til we dropped in Tokyo, visited shrines and attended traditional tea ceremonies in Kyoto, ate some of the best food of my life in Osaka, met some very polite (and some not-so-polite!) deer in Nara, and soaked our tired feet in an onsen overlooking the forests of Hakone. Japan really is a magical place and it was so amazing to disconnect from ‘real life’ for a few weeks! As much as I wanted to come home raring to go, unfortunately Hubs and I both tested positive for COVID our first day back. Helen and I also had copyedits, among other admin, with a pressing deadline, so I’ve been huddled up on the couch with my tea, blanket, and tissue box for the last week, full-speed ahead on edits! We finished them in time, but I’m now feeling like a hurricane has gone off in my house and my head. There’s suitcases everywhere, clutter we didn’t have the energy to clean, and so many admin tasks that had to get pushed to the side to make room for edits. I’m telling myself it’s okay to give myself a little grace for sickness and deadlines, but I really do want to feel organized and ‘back to normal’. But that’s a Monday problem ;) Anyhoo, I’m really grateful to have a business partner like Helen who can keep everything running while I took some time away!

UK Friends, there are new audiobooks with full casts!

For those of you with access to Audible.co.uk, you can access the new re-recorded audiobooks, featuring 5 different narrators (a different narrator for each chapter). We haven’t listened to these yet, but apparently the voice actor for Kel’s chapters is something else! 😉

Please note, Audible is region locked, so if you’re in North America and want to try the UK version, I believe there’s way to get around it, but you’ll have to Google the tips and tricks!

BROKEN BY DAYLIGHT Teaser!

We’re only a couple months away now! Here’s a teaser to keep you going ;)

Thorns break through the wood, tangling around us. Drawing me closer to him, his fingers clutch in my shirt. “Say you could beat Kairyn with his unconstrained Blessing of Spring. How do you intend to escape the three armies he has in Hadria?”

My chest presses against his as the thorns and shadows draw us under. My lips end up by his ear, then I lower them to his neck. “Then you better be close by.”

“I can’t,” he says, voice as silky as the shadows caressing us.

“Can’t?” Without meaning to, my teeth nip at his neck, hard enough to bruise. “Or won’t?”

“Kel,” he whispers, and the sound is so desperate, so full of want, it almost consumes me. His voice is dangerous, and it’s dangerous to trust him. But for Rosalina, I will do anything.

I let his shadows and thorns pull us through the Vale. We’ll find her.

Hmmm, what sort of shenanigans are these two getting up to! 😇❄️🥀

Listening To: I transitioned from the hardback to the audiobook of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, and it’s narrated by the voice actor of Prince Hans from ‘Frozen’! He’s a perfect voice for Coryo.

Reading: I am devouring the 2001 novel Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey
